mimi's birthday!
CC Mimosa "Mimi" Maghanoy's birthday celebration drew the largest crowd the Maharlika Toastmasters Club has seen so far this year. There were 30 members and guests present as Mimi multi-tasked at the meeting. Not only was she the birthday celebrator, she also acted as the Toastmaster of the Evening and she delivered an advanced speech as well.
Two new members were inducted, TM Jing Kanapi and TM TC Chua. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to capture their special moment on camera because I was late. I left the house early but for some strange reason, the LRT in Aurora Blvd. took some 15 minutes per station before leaving. It started at the J. Ruiz Station which meant that I had 45 minutes before arriving at the Recto terminus.
The program was a thrill since we heard TC's Ice Breaker. Three advanced speakers also delivered. It's always fun when you see an old acquaintance as my co-Rotaractor Tiff graced the proceedings.

maharlika tmc meeting
TM David's return as the Toastmaster of the Evening for the weekly Maharlika Toastmaster's Club meeting at the Jade Vine Restaurant. For this meeting, Dave chose the theme "Friends" and the club welcomed a new friend to their lineup as TC became the newest Maharlikan.
The turnout for the meeting was unusually low since it's the finals period for most of the students and a good number of Maharlikans are still studying so the TMC meeting had to take a backseat. There were two guests though, both from Maharlika's sister club, the Manila Bay Toastmasters Club. These two were Nazreen and Mahdi K.

love 2k8
Weekly meeting of the Maharlika Toastmasters Club. Because of the proximity of the meeting day to St. Valentine's big show, the members decided to adopt the Valentine's Day theme. Not only that, a contest featuring duets was also held. Most of the members had dual roles (some even had three) and it became a very lovable night for everyone.
Jade Vine was painted red with all the decors and props, coupled with dozens of flowers and heart shapes. CC Mely acted as the Toastmaster of the Evening. After the usual formalities, the educational portion followed. The usual Table Topics was skipped in lieu of the singing contest. Two advanced speakers were present. DTM Aida presented an award of Sports Excellence to CC Bong and these two speeches were under the Specialty Speeches manual.
TM Cecille was chosen as the contest chair for the singing contest. There were four pairs, Mely and EdVil, Owen and Erika, David and Mimi, and Marah and Bong. All were required to sing a love song for under three minutes, with the emphasis on the presentation. The combination of David and Mimi proved to be the crowd favorite and they bagged home the grand prize.
To date, the Feb. 12 meeting saw the largest crowd for the Maharlikans for the year 2008. Guests from other Toastmasters clubs like Harbor, UP Manila, Makati, and UEC were in the mix.
