Go for the Gold
Another banner year for the Maharlika Toastmasters Club awaits President Mely Fernandez. The roof deck of Hotel Kimberly again played witness to the Induction and Turnover Ceremonies for this storied TM Club. The bigwigs and who’s who of Philippine Toastmasters turned up for the induction of Mely and her new set of officers – one would be forgiven into thinking that they went to the District Convention instead of a club induction.
The ball got rolling when the dignitaries marched to the presidential table. Immediate Past (IP) Division B Governor Fred Castro, DTM, was called first, then Div. B Gov. Philip Iledan, DTM, followed by PDG Baby Luat, DTM, then IP Pres. Ed Fabonan, ACS, Pres. Mely Fernandez, CC, Lt. Governor for Marketing Wilson Lee, DTM, then Lt. Gov. for Education Noli Espina, DTM, and District 75 Governor Deling Royo, DTM. IP District Gov. Gina Mapua missed the procession.
Dinner was served soon afterwards. A short video presentation soon followed showing the accomplishments of the club for the past year. IPP Ed showcased the many happenings in the club as well as in the district. The Maharlika hunks followed up with an intermission number, featuring a dance number.
After discharging the officers of 2007-2008, IPP Ed delivered his valedictory address. He noted the bittersweet experience he had being the president of Maharlika TMC. Before relinquishing the controls to Pres. Mely, IPP Ed gave away numerous citations and awards for the outstanding achievers of the club.
President Mely then gave her inaugural address and marching orders for her new set of officers and members. Three new members were then inducted, in the person of ATM Nery Mendoza, TM Kai Alix and TM Hannah Ranes. Soon afterwards, the new officers were inducted by LGE Noli Espina. IPP Ed then serenaded outgoing Area 12 Governor Odessa Andal. True to form, Ed made a collage of the past activities of Des with matching subtitles. Then it was the Maharlika Babes turn to wow the crowd with their dance number. It didn’t show that the girls had very little time in preparing for their number as they were cheered heavily during their presentation.
It was a fun-filled night for the Maharlikans. After dancing to their hearts’ content, the group decided to continue their celebrations downstairs, in the hotel room provided to the club. Going home in the wee hours of the morning, everyone left with a smile on their face and enough memories to last a lifetime. The future looks very promising to this illustrious club.
