it can't rain all the time

Yours truly once again served as Toastmaster for the Evening for the weekly meeting of the Maharlika Toastmasters Club. Manila was greeted, for the past two weeks, by two kinds of weather: wet and extremely wet. So I chose this theme, based on the movie "The Crow". This is the title of one of the songs in the movie.

TC had an ingenious plan of texting a few members from the club, asking them why they like the rain in three sentences. On the Table Topics portion, she then asked the volunteer to guess the member who gave the particular response and why he/she thinks it was that member.

The prepared speech portion was another marathon as six speakers indulged the audience. Hannah talked about the worth of a mother while acting out a particular scene with her and her beloved mom. Her project required her to use as much vocal variety as possible and she did just that. Bobby then gave tips on the road to financial freedom. He is on his second speech and is clearly showing great promise as an eloquent speaker.

Two graduation speeches were also delivered that evening. Kai inspired her audience as she illustrated the many benefits of joining a Toastmasters Club. She gave the club a fantastic parting gift by achieving the Competent Communicator norm before she embarks on another journey in her life. Not to be outdone, Peter also delivered his graduation speech after Kai. He discussed the main problem that Filipinos have, and that is the lack of Blind Faith. He also wanted to stir up every hero within the members of the club and to achieve greater things.

President Mely then spoke of praise for her beloved mother for her advanced speech project. Mely thought of bringing her mother to the meeting but opted for the tarpaulin photo of her instead. Mimi then wrapped up the prepared speech portion when she gave a dramatic talk about his philandering father's adventures in their province.

President Nona Hermogenes, ACB of El Presidente TMC acted as the General Evaluator for the meeting. She even brought along a fellow member of her club, Rosette. She evaluated Hannah's 6th speech. Getting his feet wet was Princeton who timed the program.

After the meeting, the group decided to head out to Pedro Gil for some drinks. We ended up chowing down heaps of Chinese cuisine instead.
