Aida certainly knows how to hold a meeting and the attendance, as always, didn't disappoint. The middle room of the restaurant was filled to the brim, with members and guests arriving in diplomatic style. Every member was asked to pick a country he/she wanted to represent and even brought flags of the state they picked. A total of 17 Maharlikans and six guests were present. Ms. Aida's appeal even brought back to the meeting one of Maharlika's Past Presidents in the person of Jun Dela Cruz. Turns out that Jun has moved to Malvar, Batangas to attend to his business and so hasn't found the time to visit his old club. But he remained close to his bestfriend, Pres. Nona Hermogenes of El Presidente TMC so he's still very much in-tune with the happenings of his club.
The introduction called for a brief description of the country each member is representing and why he/she chose that nation as well as some of the interesting trivia about it. Ms. Aida also had plenty of trivia about the UN itself, on its charter members, its charter date, and the purposes for which the UN stands for.
TC opened up the educational portion with the Table Topics portion. Being the trailblazer that she is, TC opted to show vivid imagery of several conflicts and catastrophes that world is facing. Area 12 Governor Ed found the connection between the photos TC showed with the evening's theme, and he discovered that the pictures were stories from around the world, stories that needed to be told and needed attention from the UN and its member nations.
Two new Maharlikans gave their Ice Breaker Speech. TM Weana illustrated the uniqueness of her name and how she was almost never baptized because of the spelling of her name. She also demonstrated that will-power and determination will get you places, sans a college degree. TM Lala then told her not-so-romantic love story with a guy that she had a crush on during her college days in UP.
TM Bobby then gave out a well-researched speech on the many amazing benefits of smiling. Not only does smiling give you a good feeling, it also makes you healthier, and it attracts success too. CC Peter then began his Advanced Speeches with a speech about the Briefing. The Maharlikans played the role as Unilever employees and suppliers and Peter addressed the obsolete stocks that the company needed to dispose of. ACB Edvil then demonstrated how to Speak off the Cuff. He showed how the simple pencil could be used to talk about important life's lessons. Area Gov. Ed then gave three important points to watch out for when delivering a humorous speech.
No less than the Division B Governor Philip Iledan arrived as the General Evaluator. He had plenty of input for the Maharlikans and was also glad to see that the Maharlika of the past has somehow relived its former glory with the crop of members it has today. In parting, Past President Jun gave a testimonial on how the Maharlika Toastmasters Club helped him become a more eloquent and more convincing sales employee during his stint in Unilever Philippines.
