40 Years of Excellence and Service

The Rotaractors of District 3780 started the celebration of Rotaract’s 40th Anniversary with a bang. District Rotaract Representative Rodolfo “Boyet” Calalay wanted a motorcade to show the people of Quezon City how the Rotaractors celebrate. So on March 2, almost 20 cars and motorbikes gathered outside the Rotary Center to jumpstart the Ruby anniversary of Rotaract. A few Rotarians also joined the motorcade, namely PP Ed Ferriols and Pres. Steve Melendres of RC Murphy, President-Elect Bombet Olivarez of RC Paraiso, District Rotaract Representative Lumen Pestañas, and Deputy District Secretary Suzette Lee. At around 8:30 in the morning, the flotilla marched out to Roces Avenue, then Tomas Morato, down to Timog Avenue, towards Quezon Avenue, and to Commonwealth Avenue which culminated in the La Mesa Eco-Park. The motorcade spearheaded the activities for the month-long celebration of Rotaract’s 40th Anniversary.

Upon arrival at the Eco-Park, the Rotaractors were briefed into the significance of the La Mesa watershed to the people of Quezon City, which encompasses District 3780. It holds all the clean water for the entire Metro Manila and its neighboring provinces so the protection and care of La Mesa is of the utmost importance. This is in tune with DRR Boyet’s vision of Rotaractors caring not only for the community but for their environment as well.

After settling down in the rented pavilion, the Rotaractors then started the “Palarong Pinoy”. The first game was “patintero” and it was hosted by the Rotaract Club of Murphy, Cubao. The clubs sent four representatives for the game of modified tag. After the eliminations, two clubs emerged: the Rotaract Clubs of Cubao and Diliman North. They faced-off in the final round but after 30 minutes of playing, fatigue and hunger got the better of the two clubs so they decided to call the game a draw. Lunch followed immediately after the “patintero”. Each club was assigned a specific food item and they all shared in the feast, picnic-style.

The group then transferred to the amphitheater for the other games. The Rotaract Club of SFDM Malaya Achievers hosted the egg-catching event. This was soon followed by the hotly contested tug-of-war which was hosted by the Rotaract Club of Eastwood. The Rotaract Club of Paraiso proved their might once again as they emerged as winners of the tug-of-war. Following that was the game of limbo rock. RAC Batasan Hills proved to be the most slender Rotaractors as their member got past the lowest level in the limbo.

Snacks were then served after the games. Due to time constraints, the other planned games were cancelled. The Rotaractors just enjoyed the beauty of nature and took in the magnificent views of the park. Some preferred to rest their tired and aching muscles while the others continued to tour the 10 hectare park and other still found it to be the right time to be taking their club pictures. Other clubs present were RAC Balintawak, AMA, Talipapa, Cubao, Timog, Loyola Heights, Centennial QC, KAKAIBA, and Batasan Hills.

Closing time meant it was time for the Rotaractors to part company. But everyone went home with a smile on their faces; everyone was glad to be with fellow Rotaractors and not only that, they played a part in the care of the environment by supporting the La Mesa Eco-Park.
